State and National Standards
Ohio Academic Content Standards - The Ohio Department of Education provides an overview of the Academic Content Standards for K-12 education, an alignment toolkit, and resources for educators and parents.
Ohio's Instructional Management System (Browse Academic Content Standards) - This resource from ODE allows teachers to search for standards, benchmarks, and indicators by grade level and content area.
National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) - This site includes technology standards for students, teachers, and administrators, as well as model lessons and units designed for K-12 students and preservice teachers. NETS is an ongoing initiative of the International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE).
Content Knowledge: Compendium of Standards and Benchmarks - This resource identifies content standards for K-12 curriculum developed by subject-matter organizations, including NCTM, IRA/NCTE, NCSS, and NASPE. Published by McREL (Mid-continent Research for Education and Learning).
ODE: Proficiency and Testing Homepage - The Ohio Department of Education has provided information on the fourth, sixth, and ninth grade proficiency tests; grade 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8 achievement tests; and Ohio graduation tests. This page includes links to sample tests and test materials, information on diagnostic and achievement tests, alternative assessments for students with disabilities, rules and regulations, test dates, etc.
ISTEP+ InfoCenter - The Indiana Department of Education provides an overview of the ISTEP+ (Indiana Statewide Testing for Educational Progress) program. The InfoCenter provides a program manual, samplers, test guides, applied skill assement test books and teacher's scoring guides for grades 3-10 and the GQE (Graduation Qualifying Examination).
Praxis Series: Professional Assessment for Beginning Teachers - The Educational Testing Service web site gives an overview of the Praxis series and scoring. The Test Preparation section provides information on the tests in Tests at a Glance, and lists study guides. These guides may be available through Miami University Libraries or OhioLINK.
National Assessment of Educational Progress - The Nation's Report Card is a "nationally representative, continuing assessment of what America's students know and can do in various subject areas." It is a project of the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) within the U.S. Department of Education.
Multicultural Pavilion - A wealth of resources for educators interested in exploring multicultural education. The Teacher's Corner includes a list of awareness activities and a multicultural song index to help teachers initiate multicultural discussions in their classrooms.
Teaching Tolerance -"Founded in 1991 by the Southern Poverty Law Center, Teaching Tolerance provides educators with free educational materials that promote respect for differences and appreciation of diversity in the classroom and beyond."
Asian Culture Kits - These online culture kits are geared toward Middle Childhood and AYA teacher education students, and feature videos & books highlighting Asian cultures available in the Instructional Materials Center. Relevant web resources are also included.
Finding and Choosing Multicultural Children's Literature - This resource sheet includes instruction for finding multicultural children's literature in Miami's library and the Children's Literature Comprehensive Database. It also includes links to web resources with information on evaluating multicultural children's literature.
GEM: The Gateway to Educational Materials - The Gateway to Educational Materials (GEM) provides educators with quick and easy access to lesson plans, instructional units and other educational resources, mostly freely available on the Internet! GEM is sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education.

U.S. Department of Education- Federal agency charged to ensure equal access to education and promote educational excellence throughout the nation. ED includes information for teachers, parents, students, and administrators. The A-Z Index might be a good place to start.
No Child Left Behind - Part of the U.S. Department of Education’s website, this segment describes the legislation enacted in 2001. Contains an index of terms, a description of the four pillars of NCLB, frequently asked questions, and fact sheets on NCLB. Education Legislation Pending 126th Ohio General Assembly - 2005-2006 - This site lists all the education bills that have been introduced to the 126th Ohio general assembly. The bill are listed in order by most recently introduced, with House Bills listed first, then Senate. Each bill contains a brief description and links to the actual text of the bill.
Legislative Office of Education Oversight - Ohio's Legislative Office of Education Oversight (LOEO) serves as nonpartisan staff to the ten-member Legislative Committee on Education Oversight. Created in 1989, LOEO evaluates primary, secondary, and post-secondary education programs funded wholly or in part by the state of Ohio.
American Educational Research Association (AERA) - An online resource that provides members access to the latest developments in educational research and to the top researchers in the field. Links to documents on ethics in human research. Has a graduate student council. Students can register as affiliates for a reduced membership fee.
Regional Education Laboratory Network - Supported by the U.S. Department of Education, this network of ten regional educational laboratories spans the nation. The network works to ensure that those involved in educational improvement at the local, state, and regional levels has access to developments in education across the nation. Produces an annual report that profiles the activities of each laboratory. This site contains contact information for each laboratory.

Teacher Research - A website designed for any teacher considering doing research. Contains a glossary of terms and descriptions of all the processes involved in conducting research. This site takes you through all the steps of the research process—from developing a research question to finally getting published. Site also contains links to descriptions of teacher research projects and current issues in teacher research.

NCES - Forum Unified Education Technology Suite - Four separate, stand-alone documents published by the National Center for Education Statistics and National Forum on Education Statistics over the past several years. These documents present a practical, comprehensive, and tested approach to assessing, acquiring, instituting, managing, securing, and using technology in education settings.
McREL - Offers many high-quality tools, reports, and services to support the processes of measuring student progress, designing and implementing accountability systems at all levels of schooling, and using data appropriately to improve student performance. Contains descriptions of their products and links to free online available sources, such as lesson plans.
NWREL & NCREL - These laboratories contain a collection of resources on educational technology. Links to resource guides, websites, and articles on educational technology.
TALON - Designed as a guide for K-12 teachers interested in using Internet resources and creating Web-based activities for students. The subject area menu at right allows users to browse annotated links to selected sites, many of which contain lesson ideas..
International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE)- Contains coverage of many topics relevant to the educational technology community. Has links to sites on lessons plans, curriculum, professional development, research, and current news and events.
