Experimental catalog software offers enhanced searching.

New system simplifies limiting catalog results

Related service enables browsing of information about video collection

The Libraries are pleased to announce an experimental interface for the Libraries' catalog that takes advantage of faceted searching.

The experimental interface enables people to use a menu (see right) to limit their initial search results based on information such as format, media, location, or geographical area that are contained in catalog records included in the search result.

By including search capabilities included in online services such as Amazon.com, this service enables faculty and students to more easily and transparently limit search results.

Faceted searching also enables faculty and students to browse information about the Libraries' collection of more than 1,000 videos using Videos@MU.

Using Videos@MU, you can begin with a search OR begin by selecting a category such as language or format, and then using language, format, geographic coverage, subject area, genre, or coverage date to narrow down the list of results.

Both the Experimental Catalog and Videos@MU work by exporting information from the Libraries' catalog, re-packaging it to permit types of manipulation not currently supported by the catalog software, and directing users back to the catalog for information about the location and availability of the item.

The traditional catalog interface continues to be available, as well.

Explore a collection of local digital photographs

The The Frank Snyder Photograph Collection is one of many resources available in the Miami University Libraries' digital collecitons.

Frank R. Snyder was probably the leading Oxford, Ohio, photographer during the early twentieth century. He also worked for Miami University during this period, taking many of the photographs that were used in University publications. Before his death, Snyder gave most of his surviving collection of over 4000 negatives to Miami University. In addition to providing a pictorial record of the community and citizens of Oxford, Ohio, the Snyder Collection chronicles buildings, organizations, students, and events at Miami University; Oxford College, which merged with Miami in 1928; and Western College, which merged with Miami in 1973. The Collection spans the years from 1897 to 1955, with the bulk dating from between 1900 and 1930.
