Abstract:
Don Jacobo and his grandson carve a figurine of a saint from wood for the Christmas season. A large snow storm comes and closes the roads. This creates problems for Don Jacobo's family who wants to visit their family. It is also a problem for his sick neighbor who needs to to go the the hospital.

2. Argueta, Manlio (1990). Magic dogs of the volcanoes. San Francisco: Children's Book Press.

Abstract:
The people of El Salvador are protected by cadejos, which are magic dogs that are descendents of the volcanoes. Two ancient volcanoes help the cadejos when Don Tonio and his 13 brothers send soldiers to destroy the cadejos. This book contains both Spanish and English text.

Abstract:
One night, a sleepy farmer has a lot of chores to do and also has a hard time keeping his chore list striaght. One mishap after another heeps him from getting sleep. As a result, he mixes up his tasks so that he plans to "mow the cow, climb the fence, repair the hay, and milk the silo." Hopefully no one will disturb the farmer's sleep again before morning!

10. Bunting, Eve (1994). A day's work. New York: Clarion Books.

Abstract:
Fransico takes his grandfather out to look for work. His grandfather does not speak English, so Fransico must translate. Fransico accepts a gardening job for his grandfather by telling the man he is a great gardener. When the man comes at the end of the day, he finds the job done incorrectly. Fransico's lie teaches him an invaluable lesson.

Miguel's dad, a truck driver, sends Miguel a turkey to fatten up for Thanksgiving. Miguel and his family care for and love the turkey, and they name her Gracias. When Thanksgiving arrives no one can eat Gracias the turkey, instead they eat chicken for Thanksgiving dinner!

Abstract:
Lupe and Roberto are going to play the roles of Mary and Joseph in a reenactment of the night that Jesus Christ was born. Lupe's aunt, Sister Angie, is in charge of the production. However, Sister Angie becomes sick and Lupe and Roberto must proceed to the village. There is a bad snowstorm and the couple gets stranded in the snow. Friends of Sister Angie come to the rescue and play the role of Mary and Joseph, then disappear. Lupe and Roberto finally arrive and close the production. Later, Sister Angie wanders the church and finds the cloaks of the carving of Mary and Joseph covered in fresh snow.
