Abstract:
A man's paintings come to life. This causes some people problems, so he is imprisoned. When one of his paintings helps the king, so he is released.

2. Alderson, Brian (1999). The tale of the turnip. Cambridge, MA: Candlewick Press.

Abstract:
With the help of his family, a farmer grows an oversized turnip and presents it to the King. The King gives the farmer a cartload of gold for his turnip. The King's gift entices a squire to present the King with a horse, but the reward is not what the squire has in mind.

3. Alexander, Sue (1985). World famous muriel and the scary dragon. Boston: Little, Brown & Co..

Abstract:
A king asks Muriel to help people from his kingdom who are afraid of a dragon. With her peanut butter cookies, Muriel finds the dragon. She then gives the dragon a bath which makes him feel better. In return, he becomes a nicer dragon so the king continues to give him a bath once a week.

A bear was chasing Bertie. So, the king chased the bear and everyone in the knigdom ran along and made noise. The bear was flattered by all the attention.

Abstract:
One night from the confines of her crib, a baby makes a wish and much to the king and queen's astonishment, the wish comes true in the middle of the night. A lion takes the baby on a wild chase in time for breakfast. And when the queen comes in, the Lion disappears.

Abstract:
The king believes he must have everything bigger and better than anyone else until he tries to grow the biggest flower. The little flower is so beautiful that the king realizes that bigger does not mean better.

8. Babbit, Natalie (1998). Ouch!. New York: HarperCollins.

Abstract:
A baby born with the destiny of marrying a princess is brought by the King and thrown into the river to prevent a possible marriage with his newborn daughter. Rescued by a loving couple, the boy grows up and meets the King once again. The Kings plan to kill the young man backfires again and the young man marries the princess. As a test, the King sends the new prince to steal the golden hairs off the devil's head. In a surprise ending, the prince prevails, but the King is not so lucky.

Abstract:
Lucille and her younger brother, Natt, play together and use their imagination. They run around and exercise in their yard. While they are playing, a bad storm hits. Their mother puts them in the cellar as she goes to help an elderly neighbor. The storm is a tornado. When the storm is over, the two children find the two adults, and life is back to the way it was: imaginary.

Abstract:
Snuff lives wiht a knight and wants to become a knight someday. He begins his training, but does not do anything right. Until one day, he comes up with a brilliant strategy to save the bootmaker's boots from the thieves. It works and Snuff is on his way to becoming a knight after all.

11. Borden, Louise (2000). Sleds on boston common: A story from the american revolution. New York: Margaret K. McElderry Books.

Abstract:
It's 1774 and British troops are occupying Boston. King George closes Boston Harbor to punish people who speak out against his laws. Henry, a young boy from Boston, hopes to try out his new sled on his birthday. But when he and his brothers and sister get to the hill they find that the troops have set up camp there. After building up enough courage, Henry asks General Gage to move his troops because Boston Common is for everyone. Being a kind man of his word, General Gage agrees and the children can once again sled.

12. Bradfield, Roger (1967). A good knight for dragons. New York: Young Scott Books.

Abstract:
A nice, good-hearted prince named Cedric is in for a predicament. His father, the King, wants Cedric to sword the Dragon to proved that he can rule the kingdom. However, Cedric hates to fight and hates violence. At the end, Cedric humorously gets out of the situation while still earning respect and the kingdom.

13. Brenner, Barbara (1980). The prince and the pink blanket. New York: Four Winds Press.

Abstract:
The prince carries an old pink blanket around with him at all times. It makes the prince feel safe, brave, and happy to carry the blanket. The king decides no kids are allowed to carry blankets. The king is shown a film of when he was a kid and that he too carried a blanket. Finally, the king allows the children to have their blankets back.

Abstract:
Prince Evermore asks Princess Rosalina to marry him. She says no and that it would be as impossible as a rose marrying a pumpkin. When he makes a rose marry a pumpkin, Rosalina feeels guilty about her selfishness.

A young princess with a pure heart plays with three gnomes who are handicapped. She is kind and accepting to her new friends. In turn, she gains another friend.

Abstract:
Babar is an elephant who has a wonderful adventure. After his mother died tragically from a hunter, Babar goes into the city, where he lives with a little old lady. Upon returning to the forest, Babar is elected king and is married to Celeste, another young elephant. The two set off for their honeymoon.

Hef-Nefert, an Egyptian mummy, tells her story as the wife of pharaoh's brother. She and her husband are very much in love and enjoy a wonderful life together. Eventually both die and become mummies that are viewed by disbelieving people in museums.

21. Carle, Eric (1995). Walter the baker. New York: Simon and Schuster Books for Young Readers.

Abstract:
The Duke and Duchess love the sweet rolls prepared by Walter the Baker each morning. One morning, an accident forces Walter to change his recipe which results in a bad tasting sweet roll. In order to stay in the kingdom, the Duke orders Walter to create "a roll through which the rising sun can shine three times, be made from one piece of dough, and taste good." In his effort to please the Duke and Duchess, and to prevent being banished from his homeland, Walter creates the pretzel.

23. Cole, Brock (1979). The king at the door. New York: Doubleday and Co., Inc..

Abstract:
Little Baggit tells the innkeeper that the king is at the door. When the innkeeper looks out and sees that it is just an old man in a patched shirt, he doesn't believe it is the king. Little Baggit gives the king food, drink, a coat, a hat, and a donkey because the king promises him that he'll come back for him the next day- and he does.

After an argument with her friend Oakhorn the unicorn, Sarah is kidnapped by a lonely dragon. In his castle, he is human and they become friends. The only way he can break the spell is to do something good while he is a dragon.

25. Demi (1997). One grain of rice. New York: Scholastic Inc.

Abstract:
The raja thinks he is a kind man, but his country is going hungry. One day a very wise girl tricks the raja into giving her all of his rice through a simple math trick. When she is done and shares the rice with all of the other people, the raja learns what it means to be wise and fair.
