Ginger, a little boy, runs away to live on a ship, and Tim and Charlotte go after him. They both join the crew on another ship and work. Their ship collides with Ginger's ship. Ginger comes aboard. They all work and go back home to their parents.

Tom Crunch lives on a boat with his Uncle Jack. The only problem is that Tom is very bored, because his Uncle doesn't talk to him. In a big fog, Tom ventures out on a small boat. He meets a friend and a swan to keep him company while they look for the sky and sun which are lost in the fog.

Jeremy Simms, a young white boy, lives in a small town in Mississippi that is segregated. One foggy, rainy day, a bus full of people (mostly whites since some black people had been thrown off to make room for the whites), heads across the bridge and, because of the weather, crashes through the railing and into the water below. Blacks and whites, together, come to the rescue.
