Abstract:
As Sophie walks home from the park with her mother, she sees another little girl eating a "chocolate-covered-cookie". Sophie's mother does not have any cookies to give her and will not allow Sophie to eat cookies so close to supper time. Sophie is outraged and throws a temper tantrum! Sophie learns that not eating a cookie before supper isn't so bad after all.

Being a bicycle messenger in a big city is a rigorous job, but someone has to do it. The messenger wakes early and works late to deliver the proper messages to their appropriate places. Nothing can stop him, not rain, snow, or distractions of others.

Abstract:
When Annie wakes up in the morning, she is relieved to find her euphoric mother in the kitchen. They share a healthy breakfast, then her mother helps her get ready for school. After a fun day at school, Annie comes home to an angry and yelling mother. Annie copes by calling her grandmother to talk about her feelings. She takes care of herself and maintains a positive attitude with happy thoughts. She uses effective strategies to accept her mother’s bipolar disorder.

To avoid getting a spanking for being the last duck to cross the bridge, Ping stayed overnight on the river bank. He loses his family and is captured by a little boy. He is held hostage on the little boy's boat. Finally the little boy sets Ping free and he is reunited with his family.

Otto has trouble paying attention in school. He is a young car who honks his horn during class, races away from the gas pumps causing a spill, and several other hyperactive behaviors. His parents take Otto to visit a special mechanic in order to get medicine to help control his behavior.

Despite her neighbors' doubts that nine children could never fit into her perfectly ordered schedule, Minnie and the children work as a team and live together quite nicely.

It is Christmas Eve and Santa is delivering presents. When he arrives at a house, he finds a very noisy, active dog. 22. Woodson, Jacqueline (2001). The other side. New York: G.P. Putnum's Sons.

Abstract:
A fence not only divides two properties -- it segregates two families because of their different cultures. Initial fears from the parents cause them to set rules that will forbid the friendship of their young daughters. Little did they know that their daughters would break the barrier as they climbed the fence together to see the world as it should be, not as it is.
