12. Brenner, Barbara (2004). One small place in a tree. New York: Harper Collins.

Abstract:
A bear scratches the bark of a tree; beetles form small openings; a woodpecker eats the beetles; bacteria takes over the tree and a small hole is formed. Although the tree is dying, this small hole is still a home for many animals. Both living and dying trees are important as shelter and home to living organisms.

A little chameleon catches flies with his sticky tongue. One day the chameleon goes to the zoo and wishes he could be like all of the animals. His wish comes true. The chameleon sees a fly but he can not catch it because he is mixed up. He wishes he could be himself again.

Abstract:
Rooster wants to take a trip around the world. Many friends join him along the way. It gets dark, and everyone begins to worry about where they will sleep and what they will eat. Rooster decides he did not plan his trip very well. Everyone decides to go home. Rooster goes home, also. He falls asleep and dreams about his trip around the world.

Abstract:
Little Groundhog was hungry. His friend Squirrel reminds him that it would not be nice to eat from someone else's garden; he offers to teach Groundhog how to grow food in his own garden. Groundhog learns that cooperation with the birds and insects around him will help meet their needs and help his garden grow. After planting, tending, and harvesting his garden, Groundhog has a feast with his friends.

Bill and Pete are best friends who leave the Nile in search for Pete's cousin, Little Jane Allison Crocodile. Little Jane has been stolen and taken to the United States. Bill and Pete get separated when Pete helps a rich lady retrieve her purse. Bill joins forces with alligators from the swamp to save cousin Jane- just as Pete escapes the rich lady!
