Engineering Librarian

Miami University Libraries, Oxford, OH, has an opening in the Science Library for an engineering librarian to serve the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences (EAS). EAS moved into a new facility during the 2006/2007 academic year and is rapidly expanding its undergraduate and graduate programs, faculty and student body. We seek a self-motivated, creative, client-centered librarian who is knowledgeable about information technology, emerging trends and scholarly communication innovations in the scientific literature.

Responsibilities: Serve as the liaison to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences with primary responsibility for providing consultation, reference, collection management, and instructional services. Subject areas included are manufacturing and mechanical engineering, computer science and computer engineering, systems analysis, electrical engineering, paper and chemical engineering and engineering management.

In addition to providing service to the School of Engineering and Applied Sciences, the incumbent will also have responsibility for developing and teaching credit/non credit courses or workshops for the University community and participating in a variety of Library-wide initiatives, projects and teams.

The successful candidate will also serve as liaison to the Libraries Systems Department as well as the first-line Information Technology (IT) troubleshooter for the Science Library.

Requirements: Graduate library degree from an ALA accredited institution. Strong commitment to high quality public service; teaching skills leading to proficient instruction in information literacy; analytical skills to effectively retrieve information and assist patrons with information retrieval; flexibility to work in an environment of continual change; ability to work in teams and independently as well as with all levels of staff and diverse library customers; strong computer knowledge including skill in the use and application of multimedia software; strong written and oral communication skills; initiative and ability to conceive and carry out projects; ability to meet the Libraries requirements for promotion and continuing contract (see http://www.lib.muohio.edu/about/larps.pdf); sense of humor

Highly Desirable: Course work, degree or academic or corporate library experience in an engineering or computer science field. Experience with public service and teaching.

Rank and Benefits: This is a full-time twelve-month, continuing contract eligible position. Rank of Assistant or Associate Librarian and salary are based upon experience and qualifications. Benefits include Blue Cross/Blue Shield, major medical, dental and term life insurance. Ohio Public Employees Retirement System or alternate Retirement Program (ARP).
